Nicolaes Tollenaar

Nicolaes is specialised in corporate and bankruptcy law, and both advises and litigates on a variety of matters in this area. He has a special focus on cross-border matters. Nicolaes represents banks, multinational corporations, foreign office holders, investors and other stakeholders in formal and informal restructurings. He has been involved in many of the major cross-border cases in the Netherlands, or with a nexus in the Netherlands, in the past 10 years, including Lehman, Plaza, Q-cells, OSX, Yukos Oil and Marme Inversiones. In December 2016, Nicolaes completed his PhD thesis titled ‘Pre-insolvency proceedings, foundation and framework’ at the University of Groningen. Nicolaes is a Fellow of INSOL International and completed the Global Insolvency Practice Course of INSOL International in 2009–2010 with honours. He is regularly invited to lecture and speak on the subject of insolvency law and pre-insolvency proceedings. He is a member of various professional organisations including INSOL International, the IBA and the ILA.
