Maria is a barrister and has been a practising advocate for nearly 40 years. Her vast experience covers nearly all facets of the law and her expertise extends from corporate law, insolvency, banking and finance, revenue law, taxation, mergers and acquisitions, to trusts, energy and the environment and intellectual property matters. Her work experience includes managing her own law firm, acting as internal legal counsel for the former Laiki Bank, holding the position of Registrar of Companies, Patents and Trade Marks and Official Receiver from 1989 to 2001 and being a member of the Board of the European Patent Office in Munich. Maria joined Andreas Neocleous & Co in 2007 as a partner and heads the Nicosia office of the firm.Maria has been involved in a broad range of restructuring assignments, from tax-driven restructurings, through refinancing and operational reorganisations, to advising financially troubled companies internationally. She has dealt extensively with local and international banks and the international law firms advising them on cross-border restructurings, and has acted as liquidator in many liquidations of local companies.Maria has written numerous articles in the mass media and in specialist publications concerning the economy, companies, trademarks, patents, copyright, insolvencies, restructuring and trust-related matters. She is a frequent guest on panel discussions on television and radio, and frequently lectures on the above matters at specialist seminars that take place in Cyprus or abroad, attended by lawyers, accountants, bankers and other stakeholders.
