Luiz Fernando Valente de Paiva is a partner at Pinheiro Neto Advogados, and is co-head of the firm’s corporate reorganisation and bankruptcy department and he has been a partner since 2003. Mr Paiva holds LLM degrees from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo and from Northwestern University. Since May 2018 he has acted as chairman of TMA Brazil.

He focuses his practice on restructuring and insolvency proceedings in general, advising on debt renegotiation and on the structuring of security packages as well as on civil and commercial litigation matters in general.

He is or was a member of (i) the National Council of Justice’s working group dedicated to the modernisation and effectiveness of insolvency proceedings; (ii) the Ministerial Committee that assisted the drafting of the Brazilian Bankruptcy Law; (iii) the working group in charge of drafting a bill on emergency measures to prevent insolvency as a result of the crisis caused by the covid-19 pandemic; and (iv) the World Bank working group to identify and develop internationally recognised best practices in insolvency regimes.
