Kara Hailey is a senior attorney in Cleary Gottlieb’s New York office. Her practice focuses on corporate restructuring, insolvency, bankruptcy, and domestic and cross-border financial transactions. Kara regularly assists corporate debtors, creditors, investors, and financial counterparties in bankruptcy-related transactions and out-of-court workouts. She also frequently advises clients on debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing, exit financing and loan forbearance.
Kara is currently representing LATAM Airlines Group and its affiliates in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and the United States in the voluntary reorganisation and restructuring of their debt under Chapter 11 protection in the United States, including the negotiation of their US$2.45 billion DIP facility. She recently advised Grupo Inbursa and its affiliate CEC as secured prepetition lender and DIP lender in the M&G bankruptcy, including a sale and auction process that led to the full repayment of their debt. Kara also represents Goldman Sachs in various distressed lending and special situations investments, both inside and outside of court.
Kara joined the firm in 1998 and became a senior attorney in 2009. She received a JD from Yale Law School and a BA, summa cum laude, from Princeton University.
