Ignacio Buil Aldana is a partner at Cuatrecasas and head of the restructuring, insolvency and special situations group in Barcelona. He has been based at the London office since September 2013 and is the office’s co-managing partner. He is qualified to practise in Madrid and New York.
Mr Buil has extensive experience in financing and debt-restructuring transactions (in and out of court) and in negotiating financing and refinancing agreements involving a wide range of capital structures, including refinancing leveraged buyouts, as well as in project, real estate and corporate finance. He represents borrowers and lenders and advises financial institutions, hedge funds and private equity funds on financing and refinancing transactions and distressed investment strategies (including loan-to-own and direct lending). He has also participated in several national and multi-jurisdictional financing transactions and acquisitions of non-performing loan portfolios.
Mr Buil has also worked as an associate in the New York office of a leading US law firm, where he represented several debtors and creditors in Chapter 11 reorganisations, including advising on Section 363 sales and debtor-in-possession financings.
He has been recommended in several directories, including Chambers Global (for banking and finance) and Chambers Europe (for investment funds and restructuring). Specifically, Mr Buil has been recognised for enjoying a strong market reputation for his ‘extensive international and commercial approach’. He has also been described as ‘tremendously responsive, commercial, proactive and deal-oriented’.
