David Bulley leads the corporate restructuring, distressed debt and special situations team in Appleby’s Hong Kong office as well as the private equity, venture capital and M&A team, specialising in Cayman law. David has a leading creditor and debtor restructuring practice, with particular expertise in restructurings in the oil and gas sector having been instructed on many of the largest offshore oil and gas restructuring transactions, including as counsel to the ad hoc group of creditors in Ocean Rig, the largest-ever Cayman restructuring by way of scheme of arrangement, and for the debtor in the restructuring of each of CHC Group Ltd and Pacific Drilling. David was named ‘Most Trusted Corporate Restructuring Specialist – Cayman Islands’ by CV Magazine 2019, ‘2019 Mergers and Acquisitions Lawyer of the Year – Cayman Islands’ by Lawyer Monthly, ‘2019 Corporate Finance Lawyer of the Year – Cayman Islands’ by Finance Monthly as well as being recognised as a ‘Rising Star’ for restructuring and M&A for 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 by IFLR1000. David is a graduate of the University of Cambridge. He trained at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer before practising in London at Kirkland & Ellis and Sullivan & Cromwell.
