Carlos Omaña specialises in Venezuelan sovereign and quasi-sovereign international financings, corporate law, oil and gas projects and corporate restructurings. He has participated in most of the significant Venezuelan financing transactions, including the issuance of PdVSA bonds. He has represented BNP Paribas, Barclays, CAF, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Haitong Securities, Japan Bank for International Cooperation, JPMorgan and UBS Securities. He studied law at Andrés Bello Catholic University, Caracas (JD 1992), received an MCJ (master of comparative jurisprudence) from New York University (1994) and was admitted in New York in 1995. Before joining D’Empaire in 1995 (he became partner in 2001), Carlos worked as a trainee at the New York offices of Shearman & Sterling.
