Ashok is a well-respected senior lawyer with 28 years’ experience at the Singapore Bar. Corporate restructuring and insolvency (CRI) forms Ashok’s core practice, and he leads the team at BlackOak.
Ashok handles both contentious and non-contentious aspects of the practice, and regularly acts for stakeholders on all sides of the insolvency process, including debtors, creditors, financial institutions, banks, insolvency professionals and white knights. Notable recent deals include successfully representing the liquidators of Power Solar System Co Ltd on its multimillion-dollar claims, advising BLD Investments Pte Ltd in the restructuring of its 8.265 per cent guaranteed equity linked bonds due 2015, and acting for bondholder committees in the Hyflux Ltd, Miclyn Express Offshore Pte Ltd and Blue Ocean Resources Pte Ltd restructurings.
Ashok also sits on various CRI-focused committees, including the Law Reform Committee of the Singapore Academy of Law, the Insolvency Practice Committee of the Law Society of Singapore and the board of the Insolvency Practitioners Association of Singapore. He is consistently ranked as a top CRI practitioner in publications, including being ranked as a Band 1 lawyer in the 2019 Chambers Asia-Pacific: Singapore, and obtaining the Outstanding Practitioner: Singapore award in the Asialaw Regional Awards 2019.
